All BHR participants will be asked to answer questions about themselves and take brain challenges online every 6 months. One of these brain challenges is called the “Storyteller Task.” This brain challenge was created by Novoic Ltd., a research company that studies patterns in speech and language. The Storyteller Task may identify the earliest stages of brain diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease.
Storyteller Task is a brain challenge which uses speech tasks to examine your language and memory skills. Your voice and responses to questions will be recorded. There are no right or wrong answers to these speech tasks, you just need to do the best you can. The Storyteller Task will take you about 10 minutes to complete.
It is important that you complete the brain challenge in a calm and quiet place, free from distractions. If you wear glasses or hearing aids, be sure you have those on while completing the Storyteller Task. It is important that you take the brain challenge by yourself and don’t take notes or ask someone else for help completing the challenge. It is okay if you find the Storyteller Task challenging – it is meant to be. Just try to do your best!
You will be asked to use a device that has a microphone, such as a desktop computer, laptop, smartphone, or tablet. If your microphone is not already on, you will be instructed to turn it on. If an error occurs, or you pause or exit the website while you are doing the brain challenge, you will have 30 minutes to resume the brain challenge and start where you left off. If more than 30 minutes pass from when you paused or exited the brain challenge, then you will restart the Storyteller Task from the beginning.
